| VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System (VASNHCS) provides comprehensive healthcare to veterans inclusive of a 1C care center in Reno. VASNHCS delivers extensive diagnostic imaging services to Outpatients and Inpatients on a 24/7 basis ranging from complete general radiography (routine, fluoroscopy, bone densitometry, emergency portable and surgical C-arm support) to highly specialized imaging modality including Ultrasound, CT, MRI, IR, Nuclear Medicine. The incumbent Ultrasound Technologists independently performs standard general imaging and complex ultrasound examinations including non-standard and advance protocols such as emergency and inpatients, befitting a Level 2 medical center. The diagnostic ultrasound technologist uses high frequency sound waves and other diagnostic techniques for medical imaging purposes. The technologist must be competent in the production, use, recognition, and analysis of ultrasound images and patterns used for patient diagnosis and treatment. The technologist manages the diagnostic ultrasound laboratory and performs highly technical evaluation of the abdomen, pelvis, thorax, thyroids, prostate, kidneys, aorta, scrotum, vascular studies, advanced arterial and vascular studies and interventional procedures. Independently performs standard examinations through knowledge of both normal and abnormal human anatomy. Evaluates the nature of critical and emergency procedures, and rearranges patients scheduled to accommodate them. Incumbent shall also perform MSA functions to include screening, scheduling and coordinating patient appointments. Major duties include but are not limited to the following: Performs all ultrasound examinations ranging from the routine to the highly specialized. Performance of the examination requires proper alignment and position of the patient. Sets up and adjusts all equipment and manually maneuvers the transducer to perform the exam. Performs ultrasound examinations of the abdomen, pelvis, neck, chest and extremities and retroperitoneal space for the purpose of acquiring high quality examinations that assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patient medical disorders. Both B-mode and doppler applications with real time scans will be obtained to evaluate size, contour and tissue composition. Shall also perform vascular imaging, both arterial and venous as well as advanced vascular imaging procedures, such as, upper and lower extremity doppler imaging, carotid artery exams, pseudoaneurysm evaluation and liver and renal transplants exams. Knows and understand the principles of ultrasound and the highly specialized ultrasound and radiology equipment to approve the acceptability or rejectability of each scan. This includes: preparation and supplies, scanning techniques, Time Compensated Gain (TCG), zoom or expansion, hard copy, picture oriented examination, organ-oriented examination and initial interpretation of the examination. Technologist notes of the examination require identifying normal and abnormal pathological appearances. Pathologic appearance includes, but is not limited to: intraluminal echoes that shadow, polyp, carcinoma, thick wall, size, obstructing lesions, common duct stone, tumor, benign strictures, texture, solid mass, cystic mass. Technologist notes will be forwarded by the Ultrasound Technologist to the Radiologist before final interpretation is made. Assists the radiologist in the performance and guidance of aspirations, biopsies, and catheter placements for diagnostic treatment using ultrasound techniques. The technologist must be skilled in the technique of performing localization studies for invasive procedures such as biopsies and aspirations. Maintains sterile field for procedures such as biopsies and/or aspirations, drainage, etc. Appropriately prepares sterile tray, to include preparation of contrast, supplying catheters and guide wires, sterile assurance of the patient and equipment may come in contact with the sterile field with the purpose of assuring that all preventive measures have been taken to prevent contamination of the patient and/or equipment. Appropriately labels all articles on the sterile tray. This is done to minimize hazards associated with invasive procedures, and involves the use of sterile packs, gloves, syringes, guide wires, catheters, cleanup trays, etc. Adheres to hospital infection control and safety policies/technique; the storage of sterile supplies; the disposal of body fluids and 'sharps'; proper attire; hand washing practices; time-out procedure; and correct site invasive procedure. Medical Instrument Tech (Diagnostic Ultrasound) do have to take call. Work Schedule: Full Time, Tuesday-Friday, 8:30AM-7:00PM Financial Disclosure Report: Not required
