The Department of Radiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, is expanding and seeking to hire a fellowship-trained thoracic radiologist for a faculty position in the Division of Thoracic Imaging to join our growing faculty of 11 chest radiologists.
Located in the thriving Boston metropolis, the Department of Radiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital is a member of Mass General Brigham Integrated Healthcare system, comprised of 2 renowned academic medical centers and 10 specialty and community hospitals. It has connections to biotech and the broad scientific community within Harvard Medical School and MIT, providing ample opportunities for innovative research and teaching. In addition, the department offers 20% protected research/education time (one day per week).
Departmental resources include 13 CT scanners (including three CT-fluoroscopy units on which we perform all CT-guided interventional procedures), 18 MR scanners ranging from 1.5 T to 7T magnets, the latter reserved for research at this time. We also have several integrated PET-CT scanners. Our AMIGO (Advanced Multimodality Image-Guided Operating) suite is one of a kind in the country. The Advanced Multimodality Image Guided Operating (AMIGO) suite is a state-of-the-art medical and surgical research environment that houses a complete array of advanced imaging equipment and interventional surgical systems. Multidisciplinary teams of surgeons, interventional radiologists, imaging physicists, computer scientists, and biomedical engineers use this equipment array and the unique design of the suite to efficiently and precisely guide treatment. Brigham and Women's Hospital is home to the National Center for Image-Guided Therapy (NCIGT), which is the National Institutes of Health's (NIH) central resource for all aspects of research into image-guided procedures. We have a strong affiliation with the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, reading all of their imaging and performing all interventional procedures for their patients.
Applicants should be board-certified in diagnostic radiology and have fellowship training in thoracic imaging. This position offers excellent clinical, research, and teaching opportunities. Our research covers a wide span of thoracic pathologies including lung cancer screening, vascular pathologies, interstitial lung diseases, and oncology, to name a few. We are a very active and busy division with daily duties that include training, supervision, and teaching residents and fellows. Our daily duties are varied and include plain film, CT, MRI interpretation and performance of all interventional procedures in the chest, interpreting approximately 500 studies per day, 200- 250 of which are cross-sectional imaging (including about 5 MRI scans per day). Our interventional service is very busy, performing up to four biopsy procedures per day. We work alongside surgeons in the operating room in a hybrid OR setting where our radiologist performs needle localization of nodules for the surgeon in the OR. Active participation in several interdisciplinary conferences, including ILD conferences, tumor boards, and pulmonary and vascular conferences are also part of our weekly activities.
