The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics has openings for its one-year non-ACGME accredited fellowship in Molecular Imaging and Theranostics for 2022-2023 and 2023-2024. The fellowship provides extensive clinical PET-CT, theranostics, and nuclear therapy experience. Our Theranostics Center routinely works with complex patients requiring dosimetry for safe and effective delivery of radionuclide therapies. Learning is enhanced through collaboration with faculty at tumor boards and therapy conferences, attendance of lectures and journal clubs, and supervision of the daily workflow of our PET Center. Research opportunities as well as the opportunity to work with novel PET radiopharmaceuticals are available.
The nuclear medicine faculty at the University of Iowa includes 6 MD and 7 PhD faculty. Nuclear medicine instrumentation includes four high sensitivity/high resolution PET-CT scanners and 6 gamma cameras, including 2 SPECT-CT systems and a dedicated cardiac camera. The facility is equipped with a cyclotron, generators, and extensive radiochemistry laboratories that routinely provide F-18 FDG, Ga-68 DOTATOC, and Ga-68 PSMA-HBED-CC (PSMA-11) radiopharmaceuticals for clinical procedures as well as a radiotheranostics laboratory for production of investigational therapeutic agents.
Nuclear Medicine/ PET Center staff are involved in a range of research activities including: Clinical trials with investigational therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals
Theranostics in neuroendocrine tumors PET brain function and dementia studies PET/CT prostate cancer imaging PET/CT imaging to monitor the effect of cancer chemotherapy and radiation therapy protocols Development of new PET radiopharmaceuticals for use in diagnostic cancer imaging.
